Rice hulls are a great, sustainably sourced material for drainage/aeration. Unlike coco chips, rice hulls are very fine in texture, which makes them great for plants with fibrous roots like begonias. The concave shape of the hulls allows the soil to maintain aeration due to small air bubbles trapped in the hull.

Please note: these hulls are not boiled and contain occasional grains of rice which may sprout. We don't use boiled hulls because they break down too quickly in soils.

We know, there are so many products on the market that it can be confusing to pick the right one. Most of them are way too simple, too - which is exactly why we designed this system! The product isn't simple, but using it? Easy as can be!

Simply add one cap to your one gallon watering can, every time you water.

Yep, that's it!

If you want to get fancy, we've included a guide to adjust amounts through the seasons based on light levels. We do recommend using at least a bit at each watering, though - this is as much for the human component (habit building) as your plants :)

There are 3 bottles - which do I use?

We recommend using one capful of each Feed Me, Beef Cake, and Brick House with every watering. If you'd prefer to use just one product, start with Feed Me. If you choose to increase or decrease amounts with seasonal change, adjust quantities of all 3 products equally. Easy!

Tree fern fiber is quickly becoming a popular substrate choice for plants like hoyas, orchids, and other epiphytic and semi-epiphytic plants. It holds water well, will not become hydrophobic, and maintains a loose, airy structure due to the strands of fiber maintaining separation from each other. It's quickly becoming a favorite here at OHP!

You may have heard about sustainability concerns in terms of tree fern harvesting. We share these concerns. Our tree fern fiber is sourced sustainably from New Zealand growers on private land. They are harvested by hand and air-lifted out, ensuring no damage to the forest floor below.  None of our fiber comes from protected species in other parts of the world.

Each panel measures 6"x18" and is 0.6" thick.

The Cadillac of 'moss' poles, this is the professional quality pole used by the best nurseries. Made of tree fern fiber, it's lightweight, super absorbent, and has no ugly mesh surrounding the fiber because it's pressed together and sticks by itself!

Secure plants with plant tape or even large fencing staples, pressed in by hand. They'll sink right in and gently hold the stem to the pole. Attach pole to nursery pot with staples (from the outside) or wire.

When (not if) your plants outgrow their pole, it's easy to attach a second one. Just insert a bamboo garden stake into the pot behind the first pole and attach to the pole with wire. Insert a few bamboo skewers or toothpicks vertically in the top of the tree fern pole (sticking straight up), then press the second tree fern pole down onto the toothpicks and attach to the bamboo stake.
