Expanded clay pebbles for use as a standalone hydroponic or semi-hydro substrate. Useful to anchor plants that live in vases and provide weight.

We do NOT recommend this for use in your soil mix due to the rounded shape and fine pores. It does not help much with drainage. If you're looking for something to increase weight and drainage we recommend pumice or lava rock. Just looking for drainage? Check out our rice hulls and coco chips :)

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to fancy soil but still want all that OHP fabulousness for your plants, check out this kit. It will take the guesswork out of soil mixing - just mix EVERYTHING inside the box with a 1-cubic-foot bag of standard potting soil from your local garden center, and you're good to go! This will make at least 15 gallons of incredible soil.

I recommend coco coir-based soils, as peat will eventually repel water and compact. Also, please be careful with your soil choice as we cannot be responsible for fungus gnats or other issues that can be present in mass-produced bagged soils from garden centers.

Tree fern fiber is quickly becoming a popular substrate choice for plants like hoyas, orchids, and other epiphytic and semi-epiphytic plants. It holds water well, will not become hydrophobic, and maintains a loose, airy structure due to the strands of fiber maintaining separation from each other. You may have heard about sustainability concerns in terms of tree fern harvesting. We share these concerns. Our tree fern fiber is sourced sustainably from New Zealand growers on private land. They are harvested by hand and air-lifted out, ensuring no damage to the forest floor below.  None of our fiber comes from protected species in other parts of the world.

Our sphagnum moss is a sustainably farmed substrate perfect for your soil mix. Increases water retention dramatically. Our sphagnum fluff is clean and does not contain strands - only fluff! It's truly lovely to work with in a soil mix, or mix 50/50 with Pinus radiata bark for an easy DIY orchid mix! Ships dry to minimize shipping cost.
